Michigan has 249,911 acres of BLM land and 2,858,725 acres of National Forests. The last wilderness areas designated in Michigan were in 1987: Big Island Lake, Delirium, Horseshoe Bay, Mackinac, McCormick, Nordhouse Dunes, Rock River Canyon, Round Island, Sturgeon River Gorge, and Sylvania.

Summary
This bill would permanently protect 11,739 acres of wilderness at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, some 16 percent of the scenic national Lakeshore. The unique and distinct landscape, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula along the south shore of Lake Superior, highlights the beautiful backdrop of the Great Lakes. Several miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail run through this area.
