With the election a month passed, your new and re-elected members of Congress are turning attention to opportunities for improving our nation in the 111th Congress. As they ponder their legislative agendas, we should remind members of Congress that wilderness is a value we all share. Newly-elected members have not yet been sworn in and are not easily contacted, but now is a good time to reach out to your re-elected representatives and senators to tell them you support a strong wilderness agenda [1]!
Take Action Now [2]
The domestic automakers' crisis and the larger economic challenges we all face are grabbing headlines and the attention of Congress, but we know our government can tackle multiple challenges and opportunities at the same time. Send a message to your members of Congress about the value of wilderness protection to make certain these conservation opportunities don't pass us by. Advancing pressures and threats eliminate 2 million acres of America's open space every year, so we have no time to waste.
Tell your members of Congress about the conservation victories that wilderness preservation can bring during the next session. Remind them that wilderness is our common ground. [3]
